Our journey begins in Fiordo di Furore, one of the coolest beaches I've ever visited. Located in a dramatic strait and surrounded by an impressive arch bridge, this spot is ideal for jumping on a cliff. Although there is no parking, riding a bus or riding a Vespa is the best way to get to this beach. Clearwater and high slopes provide an exciting experience for adventurers.

2. Scenic picnic

After that, we dealt with the path of the famous gods. This 8-kilometer track begins in Pomerano and ends in Nosil, and takes about three hours to complete. The picnic offers stunning views of the coast and old houses on the hillside and farms. It's mostly downhill, which is comfortable. I recommend starting early to overcome heat and crowds. Remember to reward yourself with a refreshing lemon sloshi in Nuchel after a stroll! And there are non-tourist things to do on the Amalfi coast so you, my tourist friend, should try everything. You spent your money and time for fun, not for fear of adventure.

Positano is arguably the most popular destination on the Amalfi coast, and it's easy to see why. The city is known for its colorful buildings, charming shops, and scenic beaches. One of my favorite activities was to hire a three-hour boat for about 180 euros. Navigating the coast was a great way to escape crowds and enjoy the spectacular views of the coast.

Located between Positano and Amalfi, Brayano is a quieter alternative with fewer tourists. We stayed here and enjoyed the beach of Spiaggia di Praia, which is accessible via narrow tracks. Chartering a boat for a sunset cruise was a highlight, providing spectacular views and a quiet experience away from crowds.

Island Adventure

Although Capri is not a technical part of the Amalfi coast, it is a nearby island worth including in your itinerary. We took a ferry from Sorrento to Anacapri and chartered a four-hour boat at a price of €120. Exploring the island, including the famous Faraglioni sea piles and Grotta Bianca, was a highlight. For great views, move the elevator to Monte Solaro, especially at sunset.

Monte Solaro, Capri's highest point at 589 meters, offers high views of the island. Riding chairs costs about 10 euros and offers spectacular prospects, especially at sunset. It's a perfect way to wrap up the adventure of the Amalfi coast.

Getting there: Getting to Naples

When we arrived in Naples, our journey began with a scenic car south, passing historic landmarks such as Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii on our way to Sorrento. Our first stop was a delightful limoncello store in Sorrento, where we met the owner, Giovanni, who treated us with samples of strong limoncello, with alcohol content ranging from 17% to 37%. This early taste of local soul set the tone for Amalfi's exciting coast adventure.

Accommodation and base camp: Miramar Hotel

We checked in to Miramar Hotel for a three-night stay, and the views from our hotel balcony were nothing short of spectacular. Located atop the city of Amalfi, the hotel offers a great location within a short drive of Positano. With parking facilities and a beach club right on the water, Miramar has proven to be an excellent base for our explorations along the Amalfi coast.

Exploring the coast by boat

Our adventure continued when we boarded a boat from Amalfi city led by our captain. This part of the journey was really a highlight. We sailed to an exclusive private island off Positano, known as Ilegale, famous for its clear waters and spectacular rock formations. The day became more special thanks to Buckingham and Lloyds, who offered this luxury experience usually dedicated to their villa guests. Their services are highly recommended if you're looking forward to enjoying a similar sophisticated boat experience. 

Classic Italian Experience

In Positano, we picked up a vintage Fiat 500, embodying the perfect Italian experience many dreams of. As we wandered around the coast, we faced one of the travel challenges of the Amalfi coast: transport logistics.

Mobility and transport challenges

Driving along the Amalfi coast can be stressful and expensive, especially as parking is limited and often reserved for residents. For transportation from Naples, you have options such as special transfers, local trains to Sorrento or Salerno, ferries, and Sita buses, with costs ranging from 5 to 35 euros.

While renting a scooter or using a local bus system can be affordable, public transport can be unexpected. For example, we faced a significant delay waiting for a bus to the path of the gods, most likely due to a massive fire nearby. Despite the challenges, the hike from Pomerano to Positano was rewarding, offering panoramic ocean views and a relatively easy route on the slopes.

Budget Tips

The Amalfi coast is undoubtedly beautiful but comes at a high price. Meals usually cost from 15 to 25 euros, and a glass of wine averages 6 to 9 euros. Hotels are priced at around 150 euros per night, with much higher luxury options. To avoid peak season prices and crowds, consider visiting in May or September.
